Campers who seek relaxation or adventure discover a getaway to MidCoast Maine provides world-renowned coastlines, quaint downtown villages, and vibrant working waterfronts where your lobster dinner is hauled straight from the Atlantic ocean. Searsport Shores is conveniently located within an hour's drive of Belfast, Camden, Rockland, and Rockport to the South (West) and Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor to the North (East).  If you are looking to enjoy the rolling hills and fertile farming lands then we suggest that you head inland and visit Waterville, Augusta and Bangor...we'll be happy to personalize an itinerary just for you and your family!

Three great ways to find what you are looking for:

  1. Speak with the staff at the front desk. They will provide you with a map of the local area, suggest unique places to explore and good eats not miss.
  2. Download one of our itineraries, check out our Seven Days suggestion or borrow a guide book from the store.
  3. Talk with your camping neighbors. We encourage all the Searsport Shores campers to share their best finds on Instagram and Facebook. We’d are happy to offer a free bundle of firewood for every posting we can add to the Campground blog.

Here in the midcoast, we think you’ll find the best of Maine. In Stockton Springs (10 minutes East), visit Fort Point for a look at one of Maine’s iconic coastal sentinels – the lighthouse. The foot paths and pebble beach guarantees hours of fun for the family. (Astrig’s note: this is a perfect place to watch the porpoise play in the river).

In Searsport, Moose Point State Park (3 minutes South in a car but you can also walk the beach from the campground…for a satisfying sea glass hunt) has expansive views of the ocean, wonderful green space for playing catch, woodsy paths, and a new playground. The trails are level and easy to walk…an adventurous human in a wheel chair would navigate them just fine.

Go 5 minutes in the opposite direction and visit our beautiful village of Searsport for the curated shops, good restaurants and of course the Penobscot Marine Museum…maybe pick up picnic supplies for an afternoon on Sears Island.

In Belfast (6 minutes South), enjoy the water views of the harbor from Harbor walk, take a walking tour of historic downtown or hike the Passy Rail Trail.  Looking for fun, local shops and good restaurants?  You’ll find a day or three’s worth of exploration right here.  If you’re traveling with kids, don’t forget to find the City Park with a swimming pool, pickle ball courts and a really fun playground.

If you want to stick your feet in the sand and watch the lobster boats bob in the harbor, then Lincolnville Beach (12 minutes south) is the place for you. While you’re there enjoy some of our favorite seafood at iconic McLaughlin’s Seafood beside the Islesboro Ferry Terminal. While you’re in Lincolnville (and before you enjoy a micro-brew), take a hike up Bald Rock Mountain for a glorious view from above.

All of these adventures and more are within 15 minutes from the campground.  Consider this page a tasting menu and if you’d like more details head over to our 7 day vacation ideas page.
