Accessing the Storm Damage

Boy that was a long, hard storm! The surges came up over our 12′ retaining wall, flew over the 45′ sites and deposited sea urchins, mussels and clam shells all over the second row of RV sites. The branches came crashing down and somehow the Internet went with it…we were without access from Sunday night until late last night…you know, I’d sooner be without lights than Internet…isn’t that crazy…how the world has changed!

It was too wet to get anything done on the grounds yesterday so Steven and I made the rounds to three hardware stores, one tractor store, one golf cart store, one antique store, one book store, one alpaca ranch (just idle curiosity) and the Beau Chemin Farm…who says life is dull? Of course it’s a far cry from what I imagined when I was studying in college…but I’m not complaining.

We took back roads from Belfast to Liberty (check this pretty town out for the Liberty Tool Store and Liberty Graphics) then we headed to Union (one of those picture perfect towns with the town green in the center and all the white houses ringing the square like a string of well worn pearls). From Union we went to Waldoboro where we ate at the Narrows Tavern…the view of the tidal river is enjoyed by the kitchen and the bathrooms, the dining room overlooks a brick apartment building…who planned that one? But the beer was cold, the french fries were hand cut, the chowder was excellent and the bartender was playing the Grateful Dead…so we’ll go back another time. On the way home we stopped for a press pot of coffee and a few used books at the Second Read in Rockland…definitely worth a stop…it’s right on Main St.

Everywhere we looked there were trees down, roads flooded and houses that looked like precariously floating islands…here’s just a couple of more scenic photos…I figure the nightly news carries enough of the tragic ones.

They say that we should expect the flooding to intensify through the weekend…but for now the temperature is rising and it’s almost 60 degrees…feels like heaven to me!
