Happy Valentine’s Day

I love Maine in February…it’s one of my very favorite months because the preparations and festivities of Christmas are behind us and there’s still a month of daydreaming, planning and fiber play in front of us. And don’t you think that once you’ve gotten past the anxiety of youth, Valentine’s day is a brilliant excuse to hug and kiss more in a pink halo? (Did I mention that in our little corner of Maine we’re not inundated with V day advertising like some of the rest of the world?)

Here in the office the reservations have been coming in steadily and with lots of laughter. A couple of years back the anxiety over the economy was palpable but for whatever reason, things across America are feeling more optimistic. I’ve been spending the bulk of my time in the planning stages of Fiber College, the big event we host each Fall. This year it’s particularly exciting because the Quilters of Alabama’s Gee’s Bend will be teaching at the Campgrounds and displaying their quilts at both the Penobscot Marine Museum (main show) and Maine Fiber Arts Gallery (preview show). Without boring you with too many details, the Fiber College’s mission is to educate creative expression while building a community that makes the world a better place…so there’s going to be a big Wednesday night reception to benefit the Searsport food and fuel bank.

Other things we’re working on include finalizing the 2014 Artist in Residence schedule, expanding Tom Cote’s Woodworking to culminate in a Woodworking camp June 27-29 and updating this blog’s photos to include more photos of campsites…which leads me to a Valentine’s Day Request: If you took pictures of your campsite while you’ve been here, would you please send them to me at [email protected]…in our constant quest for authenticity, your pictures tell a campers’ story better than ours ever will.  Thanks in advance!
